Traffic Education

Welcome to the Bozeman Schools Traffic Education Program!
The Fall 2 application period is now closed, and no other applications will be accepted. The next available session is Winter Session.

Winter Application Period: Nov. 1 - 7 (link will be active at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, and will be visible under the Traffic Ed Program Information & Schedules link to the left of this page.) Students born on or before 7/19/2007 are eligible to apply. Placement is determined by date of birth.
Before Applying: View the Online Application Instructions link (under the TE Program Info and Schedules page) as applications filled out incorrectly will be denied. These instructions are a general guideline instructing how to fill out the application; they will not have the current session dates as it is only an example. The application must be submitted by the parent or legal guardian - not the student!

: It is the family's responsibility to ensure the application was successfully submitted. A submission confirmation email titled "Automated Email Response" will be sent to the email address that was entered into the Parent/Guardian #1 field on the application and will be sent from If you do not receive this email, the application may not have been submitted. Contact me before the end of the application period, so it can be verified that you have an application submitted as applications will not be accepted after the deadline.

Winter Session Class Times: Combination of asynchronous online delivery (Monday through Friday) and (3) REQUIRED in-person days. Not attending all three days will result in not passing the class (no exceptions).
    Jan. 19 (Wednesday): 4 - 6 p.m. (First Day)
    Jan. 20 (Thursday): 4 - 6 p.m. (Parent Meeting)
    Jan. 28 (Wednesday): 4 - 6 p.m. (Learners License Test Day)
Instructor name and room assignments will be emailed to accepted students one week before the start of the session. Class location will be GHS or BHS. Effort will be made to place students at their school of attendance.
Drive time schedules for the (6) 2-hour drives can be 6 - 8 am, 4 - 6 pm, 6 - 8 pm, PIR days and Saturdays. The schedules are created by the instructors and will be distributed the first few days of class.

Notification of Acceptance and Wait Lists: Nov. 12, by email.
Class Fee: $330
: Traffic Ed is not a requirement in Montana. The Student Relief Program allows 15+ year olds to start the licensing process without participating in a Traffic Education Course. Review the information at to determine if the option is appropriate for you and your student.

General Information
: There are typically 5 traffic ed sessions per year: Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer A and Summer B. Each session has its own online-only application period. If your child does not make it into the session, you must reapply for any subsequent sessions. It may take several attempts to be accepted into a session as there are typically more applicants than there are spots. Placement is determined by date of birth. Check the Traffic Ed Program Information & Schedules link to the left of this page for dates.
